Trust YOU!
Funny thing about self confidence is ultimately its your responsibility, hence the word “self”-confidence. You have everything you need within you to become the best possible version of yourself. Believe that you CAN. Believe that you’re capable of pushing harder and farther than you have before. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, smart enough and strong enough to achieve your goals. Don’t let false beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself. And certainly don’t get sidetracked by other people who are not on track.
“To be a champ you have to believe in yourself when no one else will” -Sugar Ray Robinson
What if the “What Ifs” happened? Everyday is a new opportunity to be great. I seriously doubt you will get to the end of your life and regret taking risks. Never talked to a person far into their life and heard them say – “I wish I would have tried and accomplished less…” Actually you will only regret the chances you don’t take. You are not obligated to win every time, but you are obligated to listen to that small voice inside and go for it.There is greatness in you and everyday is a new opportunity to build upon yesterday. Great accomplishments begin with the will to try.
If you want to live a happy, fulfilling life, tie yourself to meaningful goals, not just to people and things. Never put off or give up on something that’s important to you… not because you still have tomorrow to start or try again, but because you may not have tomorrow at all. Life is shorter than it sometimes seems. Make today count. Take just one small step a day. Approach the start of every day with one little goal and end the day with one little word. DONE!
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year because my favorite sport is back in action: football. But this isn’t my favorite time of the year just because of all the incredible college and NFL games that will have millions of people glued to their TV sets, but because of all the potential football upsets.
We see a lot of these at the college level. At some point during the college football season, a highly ranked team will get beat by an underdog team. That win will be the talk of the whole country, and everyone will be in shock as the highlights are replayed over and over on ESPN.
These upsets during football season should remind us of the simple truth that applies to building the life we desire and ultimately hope for our future: the importance of simply showing up every single day.
The reason why upsets happen in sports, the reason people fail to become their best version of themselves, the reason why we lose hope, is because people forget to "show up" every day. You will always have the number-one or the second-ranked team in the country being beaten by a smaller-division team because that top team forgot to show up that particular day.
The team will have let their record, their past achievements and the praise heaped on them by the media get in the way of their execution.
The same thing needs to happen when we have hope for big goals or to improve an area in our personal lives. Showing up every day and treating each new day is a valuable way to help you improve your life and move in the right direction.
Heres one way to help you show up every day: Pick one area that you are going to get better at each day.
I coach linebackers at a local high school, and as a coach I pick one key area to have my athletes focus on for that specific day. After a couple of months, it is easy to notice the impact this has on them becoming a better player overall. Ive adopted this same practice into my personal life. I’m not Ok! There are plenty of things for me to work on. But there’s no way I can work on them all at the same time. So my options are to stay where I am, physically, emotionally, relationally, spiritually, etc. Or Every day, focus on one key area. I may not see change overnight, but my hope remains because I am getting better daily. Yes there are areas that need your attention. You’ll get there. Believe in your self and take one step at a time.
It’s amazing what can happen a year from now if you pick one thing to work on and get better at it each and every day. Over time, you will notice a difference, not only in the results you begin to see, but how you approach each new day.
